2. How much awareness of environmental/water quality issues in the area do you have?
3. 3. Community planning initiatives can range from very broad level policies to very specific regulations. These initiatives can relate to the management of land use, environmental protection, economic vitality, and social and community services. Please indicate how important each of these planning initiatives are to the 70 Mile House/Green Lake/Watch Lake area. a.Land Use – establishing land use policies and regulations can determine the location, amount and density of different types of development (such as residential, commercial and industrial activities). Land use planning helps communities to manage their land supply, avoid conflicts among land uses and activities, and ensures that new development respects its surrounding natural and human environment.
4. b.Environmental Protection – community planning can deal with the issue of environmental protection in a number of ways. Environmentally sensitive areas, such as lake and stream edges, can be identified for special protection and management. The need to retain vegetation can be highlighted. The relationship between type and density of development, the management of sewage, and impacts on the environment can be linked directly to development policies.
5. c. Economic Planning – planning for the local economy can include means to encourage job creation, to attract business, to protect resource lands for forestry and agriculture, and to encourage core commercial services to serve the local population. This is particularly relevant for residents of 70 Mile House where the economy has been in decline in recent years. This could also address the issue of attracting young families to relocate to and remain in the area.
6. d. Social and Community Services – planning for social and community services would set direction for maintaining the local volunteer fire department provided by the TNRD, recreational facilities and programs, and other similar service of importance to the 70 Mile House/Green Lake/Watch Lake area.
7. 4. There are a number of potential activities and regulations that could be used to address issues relating to the community planning initiatives noted in Question 3. Please rate the importance of each of the potential activities and regulations noted below.
